| WAVE ~ Mike, we’re sitting here today because you took a challenge in 2001. You came out with us to our NASCAR racing event held at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield.
WAVE ~ What was your life like before you came out with us?
Mike ~ I had left college after one year and apprenticed myself as a Cinematographer. It was near the end of three years working with him and we had just finished working on Charlie’s Angels (the first movie). I was living in West Hollywood.
WAVE ~ Had you wanted to do this for a long time, or was it impulsive?
Mike ~ It was kind of impulsive but I’ve always appreciated fast, powerful cars. My friend, who’s now an Electrical Engineer and was in college at the time, came too.
WAVE ~ Was it expensive?
Mike ~ At the time, it seemed expensive but it was too good to pass up!
WAVE ~ Did doing this thing impact other areas of your life? How so? How has your life changed since then?
Mike ~ I work in film and photography and it’s all about stories and interacting with people. It’s important to distinguish myself from everyone else. After all, hiring is based on personality as well as talent and skill so anything I do that really stands out also increases my opportunities. Plus, it adds a tremendous spice to life…
WAVE ~ What did you go on to do? Did you then make any personal or professional changes that have improved the quality of your life?
Mike ~ In terms of work, I’ve discovered that I prefer still photography over cinematography. I’ve been able to move my primary business to what I enjoy best rather than it just being a hobby.
WAVE ~ What recommendations do you have for anyone who is afraid of change and/or the unexpected?
Mike ~ Unless it’s obscenely risky, push yourself outside your comfort zone. Don’t think about it ~ just do it!
Now, when are we going racing again?
